Cowichan watercolour artist Jennifer Lawson plans summer stacked with shows Published 11:45 am Thursday, July 16, 2026 Cowichan’s Jennifer Lawson has more of her watercolour works of art on display this summer — imagine that! For the month of July, Lawson’s work will be on display in the window of Imagine That! gallery in downtown Duncan.
“I’m grateful to have the opportunity to showcase my work in the local community,” said Lawson. “I paint a lot of local historical buildings, and familiar landscapes that many will easily recognize, which always piques their interest.” Fans of Lawson’s work can also peruse it along the long hall of the Duncan Garage Café and Bakery this summer until Aug. 30.
Lawson will be heading south on July 18 for the Art Gallery of Victoria’s annual Paint In event which will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with more than 100 artists displaying their work, demoing the length of Moss Street. Along with free access to the art gallery that day, the event will also feature music and food outside the gallery into the evening.
While at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Lawson will do a watercolour demo of a home nearby. “It is a wonderful day that draws about 50,000 visitors,” said Lawson. “It’s exhilarating to be part of such a well attended art event.
Visitors are always interested in my romantic portrayal of a local home with many returning a few times during the day to see my progress. It strengthens their appreciation of art, and the beautiful place we live in.” At 77 years young, Lawson is keeping busy, with yet another show at the Ladysmith Gallery from Aug. 21 to 30 where she will host an artist talk on the 22nd at 1:30 p.m.
On Aug. 23 Lawson will be setting up shop near the information booth for Arts on the Avenue, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where she will be promoting her demoing in the gallery from Aug. 21-23, and the 28-30, with the possibility of adding more in between. She will also be distributing handouts at her booth. Lawson will be showcasing a new collection of smaller and ready to hang canvas wrapped prints, along with a collection of images of beloved local buildings, and landmarks.
“The life of a painter is always fun,” said Lawson. “At the Ladysmith Gallery, I’ll be painting indoors. Visitors always enjoy seeing a painting in progress, and I love to connect with them in that way because of course it’s my life’s passion.”
Lawson’s passionate painting displayed at the various venues this summer will be a blend of both older and newer works. “It’s always interesting to see an artist’s progression,” said Lawson. Some of her new work will include smaller canvas prints, plus a line of 8 x 10 professional prints that she’ll show off for the first time.
All three venues will feature a selection of Lawson’s art cards and postcards for purchase, while Imagine That! and Duncan Garage will show off more of her canvas wrapped prints, while Victoria’s Paint In, and the Ladysmith Gallery showcase some of her more recent originals and giclee prints.
