Drivers will have to detour as the highway ramps at Edna Street in Kitchener will be closed for nightly construction this week. The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) says the ramp closures will affect motorists who are travelling southbound on Highway 85 and looking to exit at Edna St. The on-ramps to Highway 7 westbound from both Edna St. and Wellington St. will also be impacted.

The closures will be in place from July 15 to July 18 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. each day. The MTO said collector lanes will also be closed in that area during that time frame. The work is attached to the ongoing Frederick Street Bridge reconstruction project which will lead to the long-awaited Highway 7 reconstruction between Kitchener and Guelph.

The bridge was demolished in December and Frederick St. is expected to remain closed between Edna St. and Anne St. until approximately Nov. 2026.
