Echo and the Bunnymen Reveal First Album in 12 Years

Apples for Isaac features contributions from late drummer Clem Burke

While Echo and the Bunnymen have been a steady presence on the road for years, the English rockers have yet to release an album since 2014’s Meteorites. That will change on September 18 with Apples for Isaac, their first LP in 12 years. Check out the animated video for first single “Brussels Is Haunted” below.

“The mighty, legendary Clem Burke – longtime friend of Mac – was integral to the making of the album and heartbreakingly passed away during its completion... love you Clem X,” the band wrote in a statement. In a recent interview with Mojo, Echo co-founder and lead singer Ian McCulloch spoke further about the long delay between albums. “What kept us?

I think Covid had something to do with it,” he said. “But also I just wanted, lyrically, for everything to make sense—or to be cryptically important. Which is a hell of a sentence.”

McCulloch added that “more than any other record I can remember, it’s actually sounding how I heard it in my head. I’ve just gone, sing it how you want to hear it.” Apples for Isaac 01
