Clean up and safety checks continue this week after an overnight fire at the Kitchener Market early Sunday morning. Around 1:02 a.m. fire crews were called to the popular market on King Street East.

Crews believed the fire started in a vendor stall, and no foul play is suspected. No one was hurt with damage estimated at $50,000. The City of Kitchener said updates on the status of the market itself would be provided in the coming days.

“Teams are working diligently to safely restore the facility,” read a city statement. “The safety of market visitors, vendors and staff remains our highest priority.” At this time, officials say there are no structural concerns with the building.
