Four arrested, one man wanted in string of catalytic converter thefts: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police have arrested four people and are looking for another man after investigators say 13 people had their catalytic converters stolen off their vehicles.

Winnipeg police have arrested four people and are looking for another man after investigators say 13 people had their catalytic converters stolen off their vehicles. Police said there was an “uptick” in catalytic converter thefts being reported and an investigation started in May. Between April 26 and June 8, police said 13 incidents were reported and the alleged thefts cost more than $20,000 in damage.

With the help of video surveillance, police were able to identify suspects. Four people between the ages of 36 and 51 were arrested. They are all facing theft-related charges and were released on undertakings.

Police are still looking for a fifth individual. Jay Heckert, 43, is wanted for theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000 and failing to attend. If anyone has information, they are asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
