Halo Studios chief Pierre Hintze has been accused of mismanagement and abuse

While fans are eagerly waiting to collect the Halo: Campaign Evolved achievements when the game launches on Xbox later this month, a report has alleged that the studio has suffered from mismanagement and abuse. The report comes from RebsGaming, a YouTuber known for sharing behind-the-scenes looks at Halo Studios. In his latest report, Rebs alleges that Halo Studios head Pierre Hintze has mismanaged the studio and franchise and, in some cases, has abused staff.

Pierre Hintze has apparently been “reported to HR multiple times, by multiple employees, for several different reasons,” and has been accused of berating teams, "so much so that they don’t even want to show their work for fear of him blowing up at them," according to Rebs.

On one occasion, Hintze is said to have received a memo from the engineering team about work-life balance and responded by saying "I don't give a f**k." One former employee alleges that Hintze "verbally blasted" them, saying: "It's emotional and shocking, and to this day, I cannot believe Microsoft HR and Microsoft Legal did not give me the time of day. Pierre literally told me to get the f**k out of the studio.

It traumatized me." Rebs alleges that former Halo: Campaign Evolved executive producer Michael Farney was also subjected to similar treatment. "Pierre was very cruel to Michael and berated him during Campaign Evolved's development, which was not going well," Rebs said.

"Because of this, Michael was demoted, took a medical leave, and was quietly let go by Pierre during his medical leave." It's claimed that Hintze failed to create an internal roadmap for Campaign Evolved and "constantly changed priorities for the development team," leading to a tumultuous development cycle. Despite that, Hintze reportedly blamed Halo Studios staff for the issues.

"A lot of people worked very hard to salvage Campaign Evolved," Rebs said. "The development team rallied and saved the project and deserve praise for digging the game out of the hole that was created by Pierre. These people want and are trying to make Halo succeed.

Matthews also reportedly chose to hire "a bunch of his friends" instead of more qualified candidates for the studio.

Rebs isn't the first person to suggest that there has been mismanagement and abuse from Halo Studios management. Earlier this year, former art director Glenn Israel alleged that they had "witnessed firsthand or was personally subjected to numerous unethical and/or unlawful acts committed by senior Halo Studios representatives, including (but not limited to) blacklisting, fraud, rampant favoritism/cronyism." The report comes just a few weeks out from Halo: Campaign Evolved's launch, when it is due to join the library of Xbox Game Pass games on July 28, this comes as a damning report for the studio.

Hopefully, the current shake-up at Xbox will make it easier for the company to resolve employee issues in the future.
