Smartphone makers used to be obsessed with making phones as thin as possible, which created some structural and durability issues. Thankfully, that obsession is largely behind us. But at the same time, a phone that’s too thick possesses its own set of challenges.
Now, a leaked image suggests the iPhone Ultra could be bulkier than we thought. iPhone Ultra bulkier than expected This leaked image comes courtesy of tipster Ice Universe on X. In the image, they shared what appears to be a production image of the iPhone Ultra, which they claim is bulkier than the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. It’s hard to tell from this particular photo and the angle, but is bulkier a bad thing?
iPhone Ultra looks a bit bulkier than the Z Fold8, although it will definitely outsell the latter pic.twitter.com/n0EigyMeUn — Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) July 12, 2026 There were rumors that one of the reasons behind the launch of the iPhone Air was because Apple wanted to test if they could fit components inside a frame that small. It was also rumored the iPhone Ultra would essentially be the thickness of two iPhone Airs put together.
For context, the iPhone Air measures 5.6mm thick, so double that and it would be 11.2mm. That’s about 2.4mm thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, the rumors claim it might actually be slightly slimmer than that at 9.6mm. 2.4mm on the ruler doesn’t look like much, but in smartphones, it might be quite noticeable.
However, once again, we have to question whether or not this is a bad thing. A foldable phone usually feels more fragile compared to traditional phones. Having a bit of heft and bulk could make it feel more secure in our hands.
But unfortunately, we’ll only have a better idea once it launches. What and when we can expect The iPhone Ultra is currently rumored for a launch this September. It is expected to be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
So far, the rumors claim it will sport a display with no visible crease, thanks to Apple’s hinge design, which is rumored to be made with either liquid metal or 3D printing. It will also sport a more tablet-like aspect ratio, making it unfold looking more like an iPad mini than a square. The latest rumors claim it will also feature a dual battery setup with a total capacity of 5,425mAh.
There were initial concerns that it could be delayed, but the latest reports claim that everything is on track for a September launch. The post Leaked iPhone Ultra Image Hints at a Chunkier Design Than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 appeared first on Android Headlines .
