Letter: Flying local

'For as long as I can remember, Sunshine Coast Air — known to many of us for years as Tofino Air and before that Tyee Airways who provided service in the early ‘60s (some of the fleet purchased by Tofino Air) — has been flying me, my family, and my friends safely to and from the Coast.'

Editor: As someone who was born and raised on the Sunshine Coast, I’ve watched our community change in so many ways over the years. Growing up in the village of Sechelt in the 1950s, I remember looking up at the floatplanes flying overhead and dreaming about where they were going.

Those aircraft were more than just transportation — they were a lifeline connecting our small coastal community to the rest of British Columbia. I’ve also watched many local businesses come and go over the decades. Running a business on the Sunshine Coast has never been easy; I should know as I own a small business myself.

That’s why I believe it’s important to recognize the businesses that have stood the test of time and have continued to invest in serving our families and community. For as long as I can remember, Sunshine Coast Air — known to many of us for years as Tofino Air and before that Tyee Airways who provided service in the early ‘60s (some of the fleet purchased by Tofino Air) — has been flying me, my family, and my friends safely to and from the Coast. Whether it was for medical appointments, vacations, or welcoming loved ones home, they’ve always been there when we needed them.

Even when the weather is terrible in the winter months and business is slow... Sunshine Coast Air keeps on flying. So the next time you, your friends, family, business partners need a flight to or from the Coast in spring, summer, fall or winter...fly our local floatplane company so that they can continue to keep their doors open all year long to get you home.
