Article content Making us choose Mayor Farkas is the right person for the job and I continue to support him. However, his overt attacks on Premier Smith appear simply as trying to curry favour from those voters who did not vote for her. He should concentrate first to fix all the ridiculous things the Gondek and Nenshi agendas brought to Calgary.

He should also remember the majority of those who supported him as a good choice for mayor also supported Premier Smith as their best choice for premier. Don’t make us choose. Our choice (Re: ‘Let Canadians vote on Alberta,’ Letters, July 12) Did Canadians get a say when Quebec had their vote? No!

Then let us decide our future. If Albertans want to vote ‘no,’ then they can vote ‘no.’ If they want to vote ‘yes,’ then they can vote ‘yes.’

It’s democracy. And that, for one, is not B.C.’s business. I won’t let a bunch of NDPers decide for my future, so buzz off!

World Cup wonder It has been so great to watch the World Cup soccer games every day. It is just so fantastic to watch the nations play against each other with such vigour and stamina and determination. The heat at most of these stadiums has been unbearable to play a game in.

As the grandmother of an 11-year-old soccer player, it is delightful to see and understand why he is so enthusiastic about a sport where the kids are busy enjoying and, yes, even competitive. Thankfully, that is still allowed these days. VAL STEPHANSON (It’s been riveting)
