The children’s area of the Greater Sudbury Public Library’s Lively branch has been reopened after receiving an overhaul. The renovation was made possible thanks to donations from KGHM International and the Friends of the Greater Sudbury Public Library, according to a media release issued by the city. “This welcoming space gives children and families even more opportunities to read, learn, play and explore together,” Mayor Paul Lefebvre said on social media.

New features to the area include: - A reading tree and bird’s nest lighting to entice young readers into the space - A miniature makerspace, allowing children to design, experiment, and make - Fresh shelving to highlight the children’s collection - Calm nature-inspired colours to support children, including those with special needs, to stay, read, and play longer - A new location in a wing, creating less noise transfer with other Library users, allowing for more focus and less distraction throughout the branch - Natural lighting - New furniture for kids, parents, and guardians to relax in the space “The area was designed using a biophilic approach featuring nature-inspired colours and details, which has been shown to support learning,” the city noted.

Mayor Paul Lefebvre and city council members attended the area’s grand reopening on July 10, which closed with a story time led by Greater Sudbury Public Library staff.
