The closure includes the complete shutdown of the Drouillard-Wyandotte intersection to all traffic, including local vehicles.
Motorists in east Windsor will have to contend with a major road closure for several months as rehabilitation work continues on the VIA Rail bridge at Wyandotte Street East and Drouillard Road. The City of Windsor says both Drouillard Road, between Edna Street and Riverside Drive East, and Wyandotte Street East, between Cadillac Street and Albert Road, will remain fully closed until Friday, Oct. 23, weather permitting. The closure, which began Tuesday, is in effect around the clock and includes the complete shutdown of the Drouillard-Wyandotte intersection to all traffic, including local vehicles.
Traffic has already started to shift to Riverside Drive, which has seen increased congestion since the shutdown. Despite the closures, local access to homes and businesses will be maintained on Drouillard Road between Riverside Drive East and Wyandotte Street East. Emergency vehicles will also continue to have access through the construction zone.
The rehabilitation project includes replacing security fencing, repairing structural steel, blast cleaning and resealing the bridge’s steel structure. Crews will also improve drainage and carry out concrete repairs. Detour signs have been posted around the construction zone to direct motorists.
The city is encouraging drivers to plan ahead and expect delays while travelling through the area.
