Norfolk OPP and several supporting police units responded to a Main Street residence at about 3:45 p.m. Recommended Videos One person suffered minor injuries after being assaulted by another individual during an interaction inside the residence, police said in a media release on Sunday afternoon.

Police say the individual is accused of producing a firearm and pointing it at the other person. A section of Main Street between Alma and Clifford streets was closed and people were urged to shelter in place for several hours during the incident. At about 9 p.m., police said a suspect had been taken into custody.

“During the investigation, officers also learned of several previous incidents involving the same individuals, including assaults, property damage and the use of a firearm, that had occurred over an extended period of time,” said police. The accused is facing numerous charges including six counts of spousal assault, three counts of spousal assault with a weapon, two counts of assault cause bodily harm (choke, suffocate or strangle), and assault with a weapon. He is also charged with four counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm; uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm (spousal); and three counts o mischief (destroys or damages property).

The man is also facing firearms and weapons charges: two counts of pointing a firearm and two counts of possession of weapon for dangerous purpose. The accused is in custody and will appear for a bail hearing at the Simcoe courthouse at a later date.
