Marie business without paying for hundreds of dollars of merchandise. Corey Peplow didn’t report for two months as of mid-April, assistant Crown attorney Blair Hagan told court on Wednesday.

Recommended Videos He put more than $600 of goods, including bedding sets, in a shopping cart at Walmart and left the Great Northern Road business on April 7. Peplow pleaded guilty to theft under $5,000 and and two counts failing to comply with his probation order. The Indigenous man has an “atrocious record” that runs six pages long, said Hagan.

His actions called for jail, she added. Ontario Court Justice Kathryn McKerlie agreed saying incarceration was “clearly required” as Peplow acted in “complete defiance” of court orders. His “bold” theft from Walmart “must be denounced.”

The merchandise was not recovered. McKerlie accepted a joint position from Hagan and defence counsel Ken Walker. Peplow was sentenced to 120 days in jail.

His 80 days of pre-sentence custody were enhanced to 120 days. He remains in custody on other matters. Peplow, 43, grew up in a home where substance use was present, said Walker.
