Missing Shuswap boater found deceased: RCMP Published 4:40 pm Tuesday, July 14, 2026 An extensive search of Mara Lake has ended as the body of a missing boater has been recovered, according to Sicamous RCMP. The RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team (URT), with support from the RCMP National Underwater Recovery Training Centre NURTC), located and recovered the missing man from the Shuswap area lake Tuesday, July 14.

“Thank you to the URT, NURTC, Search and Rescue volunteers, and all partner agencies for their efforts throughout this operation. While this is a tragic outcome, we hope the recovery of the missing man brings some closure to his family and friends. Our thoughts remain with them during this difficult time,” said Sgt.

Murray McNeil, Sicamous RCMP detachment commander. Police did not provide further details about the circumstances of the man’s death. Sicamous RCMP received a report shortly after 8 p.m. Friday, July 10, of a missing person after friends aboard a boat on Mara Lake determined that one member of their group was unaccounted for.

Sicamous RCMP, along with Search and Rescue (SAR), attended the area and initiated search efforts on the water and along the shoreline. Operations continued throughout Saturday, with SAR personnel conducting extensive searches. URT attended the scene to assess conditions and debrief with search crews to develop a plan for ongoing search and recovery efforts.

The search efforts went on for several days. It was a deadly weekend on waters in the valley, as another man has been presumed dead after falling into Okanagan Lake Saturday, July 11. —
