'No foul play is suspected': Police confirm two deaths on July 5 at Squamish recreation spot

Based on the investigation so far, the circumstances around the deaths are not believed to be suspicious, police say.

Squamish RCMP have confirmed what has been circulating on local social media for two weeks. Two people died in a popular recreation area on July 5. That day, the Sea to Sky RCMP in Squamish say they were called about a woman whose body was found in the Mamquam River about 17 kilometres along the Mamquam Forest Service Road.

RCMP officers and Squamish Search and Rescue went to the scene, where a second man was found dead at a nearby campsite. According to RCMP, an investigation was then started by the Sea to Sky RCMP General Investigation Section. Based on the investigation so far, the circumstances around the deaths are not believed to be suspicious and no foul play is suspected, RCMP said.

The BC Coroners Service says it is investigating the deaths. No other information was released by officials.
