QX80 Autograph offers big luxury, bold look

Completely redesigned for its latest generation, the Infiniti QX80 has transformed from a traditional body-on-frame luxury SUV into a far more refined and technologically advanced vehicle while retaining the off-pavement capability that many buyers in this segment demand.

The full-size luxury SUV segment continues to evolve, with buyers expecting premium accommodations, cutting-edge technology, and genuine utility all wrapped into one sophisticated package. Infiniti’s flagship offering, the 2026 QX80 Autograph, aims to deliver on all fronts. Completely redesigned for its latest generation, the QX80 has transformed from a traditional body-on-frame luxury SUV into a far more refined and technologically advanced vehicle while retaining the all-weather, off-pavement capability that many buyers in this segment demand.

The first thing you notice about the QX80 is that it is very big. The 2026 Infiniti QX80 is among the largest luxury SUVs available today, competing directly with vehicles such as the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and Mercedes-Benz GLS. With metrics of 211.2 inches long, 83.3 inches wide, and 75.8 inches high, it is every bit a full-size SUV.

My tester was the range-topping Autograph Edition, carrying a base price of $111,500. Equipped with a stunning two-tone exterior paint treatment ($1,695) and the Interior Lighting Package ($1,060), the final sticker price reached $116,445. From the moment it arrives, the QX80 makes a statement.

Its massive proportions, upright stance, and bold grille ensure it stands out in a crowded luxury SUV field. The optional two-tone paint scheme further enhances its premium appearance, giving the vehicle an upscale and contemporary look that draws attention without appearing overly flashy. The Autograph trim includes numerous upgrades that distinguish it from lower QX80 models.

Among the highlights are semi-aniline leather seating surfaces, quilted upholstery patterns, massaging front seats, heated and ventilated first- and second-row seats, premium open-pore wood trim, upgraded interior materials throughout the cabin, and enhanced technology features. The Autograph also features captain’s chairs in the second row, creating a more executive-style passenger environment while improving comfort for long-distance travel. I was impressed by the stylish 22-inch aluminum alloy wheels that contribute to the QX80’s commanding presence.

Despite the wheel size, ride quality remains impressively composed thanks to Infiniti’s sophisticated suspension tuning. Power comes from a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters. The powertrain delivers smooth acceleration and ample power for merging, passing and highway cruising.

The transmission generally shifts seamlessly and keeps the engine operating in its optimal power band. For a vehicle of this size, performance is surprisingly confident. The twin-turbo V6 provided strong low-end torque, helping move the nearly 3-ton SUV without feeling strained.

Fuel economy is rated at 16 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined. While those figures are typical for a large luxury SUV, they remain a consideration for buyers facing rising fuel costs. One of the QX80’s most practical strengths is its impressive 8,500-pound towing capacity.

That figure makes it a viable option for families who tow large boats, campers, horse trailers or recreational equipment while still wanting a luxury-focused daily driver. Inside, the cabin is where Infiniti has made some of its most significant improvements. The interior feels genuinely upscale, featuring soft-touch materials, authentic wood accents, detailed stitching, and carefully crafted trim pieces throughout.

The attention to detail is evident, and the overall design successfully balances luxury with modern technology. Of special note is the optional Interior Lighting Package, which adds another layer of sophistication. Lighted cargo scuff plates create a premium touch during nighttime loading, while the panoramic illuminated headliner transforms the cabin after dark.

The effect is subtle yet elegant, enhancing the sense of occasion every time occupants enter the vehicle. The seating comfort deserves special mention. The front seats provide excellent support for long trips, while the available massage functions help reduce fatigue during extended drives.

Second-row passengers enjoy generous legroom and upscale accommodations that rival some luxury sedans. Technology is equally impressive. Large digital displays dominate the dashboard, providing crisp graphics and intuitive controls.

Smartphone integration, navigation, premium audio, and multiple connectivity options are easily accessible. Infiniti has also improved the user interface, making many functions easier to operate than in previous generations. Safety remains a major focus.

The QX80 comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance technologies, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot intervention, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and a surround-view camera system. Of course, no vehicle is without shortcomings. While the redesign has elevated the QX80 considerably, its sheer size can still make maneuvering challenging in crowded parking garages and narrow city streets.

During my test period, I also found the infotainment menus required multiple steps to access commonly used functions, creating unnecessary attention from the road. Although the twin-turbo V6 delivers strong performance, some longtime luxury SUV buyers may miss the effortless character and distinctive sound of the larger V8 engines that previously powered vehicles in this class. Fuel economy, while competitive for the segment, is unlikely to impress anyone seeking efficiency.

The price is another factor. With a sticker price exceeding $116,000 as tested, the QX80 Autograph competes directly against several well-established luxury rivals. Still, the 2026 Infiniti QX80 Autograph makes a compelling case for itself.

It delivers genuine luxury, modern technology, impressive towing capability, and a beautifully crafted interior. The redesign has brought Infiniti’s flagship into much closer alignment with the expectations of today’s luxury SUV buyers. •
