Workers receive minor injuries trying to extinguish blaze

Salmon Arm residents receiving care after house fire Published 3:59 pm Thursday, July 16, 2026 Salmon Arm residents are in the care of Emergency Support Services after a fire caused significant damage to an Auto Road home. Just before noon on Thursday, July 16, crews from two city firehalls responded to a reported structure fire at 4211 Auto Road SE. Upon arrival, firefighters were greeted with heavy smoke and flames coming through the roof of a home.

Fire Chief Brad Shirley said firefighters were quick to knock down the fire while ensuring nearby trees didn’t ignite and cause further damage. While no injuries were sustained by firefighters, Shirley said two workers on site “who tried to extinguish the fire were treated for minor burns to their hands by BC Ambulance.” Crews were at the scene for about three hours.

Shirley said a cause hadn’t been determined, though the fire appeared to be “accidental in nature.” With the damage leaving the home uninhabitable, Shirley said its residents were receiving care from Emergency Support Services staff.
