Severe weather leaves trail of damage in Saskatchewan communities

A series of severe storms moved across parts of Saskatchewan overnight, leaving damage behind in some communities.

A series of severe storms moved across parts of Saskatchewan overnight, leaving damage behind in some communities. Environment Canada issued 15 severe thunderstorm warnings and six tornado warnings between 3 p.m. on July 11 and 4:46 a.m. on July 12. All warnings have since ended.

One tornado touched down north of Lloydminster across the North Saskatchewan River around 5:50 p.m. Saturday. A photo taken by Lloydminster resident Jason Whiting shows a funnel cloud extending from a large storm cloud to the ground over a rural landscape north of the city. The Northern Tornadoes Project has also confirmed a pair of tornadoes that occurred with a single storm near Glaslyn, Sask.

on the evening of July 11. The organization says the confirmations are based on visual evidence and that no damage or injuries have been reported. In Kinistino, a town located about 65 kilometres southeast of Prince Albert, photos taken Sunday morning show extensive damage at AgWorld Equipment, an agricultural equipment dealership, following the overnight storms.

The photos show significant damage to the dealership, including a collapsed roof, torn exterior walls and debris scattered across the property. Some of the damage also extended into the building’s showroom area. The full extent of storm damage across Saskatchewan was not immediately known Sunday.

CTV News has reached out to Environment and Climate Change Canada for more information but had not received a response by publication time.
