St. Paul 8-year-old's lemonade stand raises over $1,500 for STARS

Alexis Moore also won the Entrepreneur of the Year award for northern Alberta at the 2026 Lemonade Day

ST. PAUL – About four years ago, when Alexis Moore was four years old, STARS Air Ambulance, a non-profit air ambulance service that serves western Canada, flew her to a hospital in Edmonton after she hit her head and suffered a concussion. She wanted to give back to STARS by funding a single STARS mission, which she figured would cost about $5,000, from a flight out to help someone and back to a hospital. Three years later she found a way to do so – with a lemonade stand.

“They go out there every single day and risk their lives for someone else's,” says Alexis. When Alexis was five years old, she actually wanted a lemonade stand after her parents drove her around to support other children during Lemonade Day. Lemonade Day is a free annual youth entrepreneurship program that teaches kids to run their own business from recipe to budget to opening day.

In northern Alberta, the program was delivered this year by the Community Futures St. Paul-Smoky Lake Region. “But my parents said I was way too young . . . I could barely even do it by myself when I was seven,” admits Alexis.

Renée Moore, her mother, says, “She was a little upset,” and cried. So, her parents made her a deal. “When you're old enough to put the work into it, mommy

[and] daddy will help . . . [and] support you," Renée told her. “But you're the one that has to do the work.”

And Alexis did. She participated in her first Lemonade Day last year when she was seven raising over $1,000. Participants choose a charity or non-profit they would like to donate to, and Alexis “knew right from the start

[I wanted to] donate to STARS.” Sharing her recipe, Alexis said that last year, her lemonade recipe used strawberry-rhubarb as the base ingredient. This year, at the 2026 Lemonade Day held on June 13, she wrote a raspberry-jam recipe herself and used it as her base.

“And then I added a pinch of lemon, a little bit of sugar and simple syrup.” She sold crinkle cookies on the side. Those, she says, were also a big hit.

Alexis ended up raising over $1,500, putting her halfway through her $5,000 goal for STARS. She also won the Entrepreneur of the Year award for northern Alberta. Lemonade Day, while challenging, is always fun for Alexis.

“The hardest thing was setting up and . . . refilling the ice,” says Alexis. “But the easiest part was serving . . .

and seeing all the people.” “We had a lot of people that we knew, so it was like a big party,” she adds. Alexis and Renée expressed their thanks to the community.

“The community certainly came out to support her,” Renée says. “It takes a village, and we certainly have a very supportive one throughout St. Paul and area.” “People made a point to come and pick up lemonade from her on this particular day, rain or shine.”
