Summer Streetfest to take over downtown July 17-18

Summer Streetfest is set to turn up the heat in the heart of Woodstock.

From July 17 to 18, the downtown core will be transformed into a festival that includes live music, family entertainment, food, shopping and attractions such as a zip line, rock-climbing wall, foam party and outdoor basketball courts. Recommended Videos Presented by the Downtown Woodstock BIA, StreetFest is one of Woodstock’s signature summer celebrations, inviting the community to get outside, explore the downtown and experience something different around every corner.

“StreetFest is about bringing people together and giving them a reason to spend the day downtown,” said Fadel Zabian, co-chair of the Downtown Woodstock BIA. “Whether you come for the music, the activities, the food, the shopping or simply to enjoy the atmosphere, there will be something happening around every corner.” Music will fill the streets as local and regional performers take to multiple stages throughout the two-day festival.

From solo performers and small ensembles to full bands, the lineup will offer plenty of opportunities to stop, listen, and discover local talent. Interactive entertainment and family-friendly shows will add to the atmosphere. Visitors can fly above the festival on the zip line, take on the rock-climbing wall, or jump into the fun at the street foam party, all part of the activities and interactive experiences throughout downtown.

Many of the activities will be offered free of charge so that families can head downtown, stay for the day and experience the festival together. “StreetFest gives us an opportunity to showcase what makes downtown special,” said Kerry Baird, downtown development officer. “The entertainment and activities bring people together, but the businesses, restaurants, architecture and people of downtown are what make the experience memorable.”

Local restaurants and patios will welcome festivalgoers, while food and treat vendors throughout the event will offer even more options for grabbing a StreetFest snack. Visitors are also encouraged to explore Downtown Woodstock’s independent shops, services and businesses while enjoying the atmosphere. The weekend will wrap up with the annual StreetFest Cruise, presented by South Gate Centre, when Dundas Street will once again be lined with an incredible collection of unique cars and trucks.

3v3 Basketball Tourney The inaugural 3v3 From Downtown Basketball Tournament is something new taking place during Streetfest. The tournament will feature elementary, high school, and competitive divisions, along with skills competitions, community showcases, and a festival atmosphere that celebrates basketball for all ages. Why Not Us, a group investing in youth by providing platforms in arts, athletics and mentorship, covered registration fees for the first 40 youth participating in the tournament.

“One of the greatest things about our community is that people are always willing to step up for one another,” said Kurke White, vice president of Why Not Us. “Why Not Us is based on the mentality of doing things a little above average in order to raise the average. Sponsoring the first 40 youth is our way of ensuring the community support comes full circle and creates an opportunity that families can enjoy together.”
