As July breathes into Golden, the Art Gallery of Golden (AGOG) is humbled to welcome a powerful storytelling exhibit into our space. In partnership with Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy, the Art of Migration is a touring exhibit that pairs local artists with newcomers to Canada. Each collaboration has created a unique piece of work reflecting the challenges, triumphs, and lived experiences of the migration journey.
This exhibition highlights the power of storytelling through art and invites reflection on the importance of welcoming newcomers into our communities. The exhibit is a multi-media collection of works, each piece unique in its medium and deeply rooted in its story, in courage, and in resilience. They feature a biography from the artist and reveal distinctive symbols and techniques, as well as the story of the folks who are reflected in the pieces.
With nearly a dozen individual stories, the exhibit will bring you to a pause and ask you to consider the importance of community, safety, home, and belonging. The exhibit will be at AGOG until Friday, August 7th. We invite you to visit the exhibit anytime between our opening hours of Monday – Saturday from 10:30 am – 5:00 pm & Sundays from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.
You can also explore the works of over 100 artists from throughout the Columbia Valley and surrounding region.
