A Victoria man is speaking out after his six-year-old dog was killed in what he says was a sudden attack by another dog near Beacon Hill Park. He is hoping the tragedy will lead to changes that help prevent similar incidents. “I remember screaming, ‘You killed my dog.

You killed my dog,'” said Trent Warlow. Warlow is still grieving the loss of his Yorkshire-Poodle cross, Loki, who he describes as more than just a pet. “He worked at Shoreline School for about six years working with kids with diverse abilities and kids with autism,” Warlow said.

According to Warlow, he was attending a celebration of life with friends at a beach near Mile Zero last Saturday, July 11, when the attack happened without warning. “A Rottweiler came running in, grabbed him, and then I had to get him on the ground and pull his jaws apart,” he said. Despite his efforts to separate the dogs, Loki died from his injuries in Warlow’s arms.

(Courtesy: Trent Warlow) Victoria Animal Control confirms it responded to a call at Mile Zero on Saturday and is leading the investigation. However, with the investigation still in its early stages, officials are not releasing additional details.

Warlow says animal control knows where the dog allegedly involved in the attack is, but says it has not been apprehended. Animal control would not confirm that information when contacted by CHEK News. The incident comes just weeks after another serious dog attack on southern Vancouver Island.

On Canada Day, two children were seriously injured by a Rottweiler in Central Saanich, leaving one child missing part of an ear. While Warlow says the loss of Loki has been devastating, he insists the issue goes beyond any specific breed. “It’s not about a breed.

It’s about how we train our dogs,” he said. “If you have a dog that is dangerous, don’t take it to a public place.” Warlow is now calling for stricter leash bylaws in Victoria and says he hopes sharing Loki’s story will encourage responsible pet ownership and prevent another family from experiencing the same heartbreak.

Warlow’s friends have also set up a GoFundMe page to help Warlow with vet bills and personal grieving. Victoria Animal Control’s investigation remains ongoing. Loki the dog is shown.
