Charges laid after youth seriously injured in Chilliwack, B.C., assault

Police say a Chilliwack, B.C., man is facing charges following an investigation into a serious assault that left a youth with significant injuries earlier this year.

Police say a Chilliwack, B.C., man is facing charges following an investigation into a serious assault that left a youth with significant injuries earlier this year. The Upper Fraser Valley RCMP says officers responded to a report of an assault on Wells Road shortly after 2 a.m. on May 3. Investigators say a young person was taken to hospital with significant injuries following the incident.

The investigation was led by the Chilliwack RCMP’s Serious Crimes Unit, which identified a suspect following what police described as “an extensive investigation” in a statement Wednesday. The statement said the B.C. Prosecution Service has since approved two charges—assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm—against 18-year-old Tyreese Webber-Schooner of Chilliwack. Police did not describe the weapon allegedly used, the nature of the victim’s injuries or relationship to the suspect.

Const. Brennan Kish said the investigation relied on valuable information that was provided by members of the public. “We would like to thank everyone who came forward to assist investigators,” he said in a statement.

“Their co-operation contributed greatly to advancing this investigation.” Webber-Schooner made his first appearance in court on Tuesday.
