30-year-old spent last season as head coach of the Yale Hockey Academy U17 Prep program
Matt Revel named assistant coach, assistant general manager for Chilliwack Chiefs Published 12:26 pm Tuesday, July 14, 2026 Abbotsford’s Matt Revel is joining the Chilliwack Chiefs organization as both the club’s assistant coach and assistant general manager. The BCHL team made the announcement of his addition on Tuesday (July 14). He spent the 2025-26 season as the head coach of the Yale Hockey Academy U17 Prep program.
That club finished in ninth place in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League standings with a record of 18-9-3. Yale were then bounced from round one of the playoffs to conclude the season. He served as an assistant coach for the UBC Thunderbirds from 2023 to 2025 and also was behind the bench as an assistant coach for Team Black at the BC U16 Cup in 2025-26.
He started his coaching career with the Vancouver Thunderbirds U15 Tier 1 program and was a past guest coach with the Portland Winterhawks and the Colorado Avalanche development camp. “Matt is a great addition to our staff,” stated Chiefs head coach and general manager Brian Maloney. “His passion for developing players and his experience at multiple levels make him an excellent fit for our program.
We’re excited to have him join the Chiefs.” Revel played six games over two seasons for the Chiefs in 2011-12 and 2012-13 before moving onto the Western Hockey League’s Saskatoon Blades, Kamloops Blazers and Portland. His most productive season in the WHL was 53 points in 66 games with the Blazers in 2015-16.
He went on to play four seasons of university hockey with UBC and one seasons of professional hockey in Austria before hanging up the skates in 2023. The 30-year-old joins a Chiefs team that finished second in the BCHL’s Coastal East Division with a record of 30-21-2-1. The Chiefs eliminated the Coquitlam Express in round one of the playoffs, but were then eliminated by the Prince George Spruce Kings in round two.
