Caylin James Holland was convicted in Prince Rupert Provincial Court on Aug. 5, 2026, and fined $7,500 for illegally possessing Northern Abalone, Fisheries and Oceans Canada said in a news release.

The department said the case followed a Sept. 8, 2025, alert from the Metlakatla Fishery Guardians to DFO about suspected northern abalone harvesting in waters around Metlakatla.

According to Fisheries and Oceans Canada, fishery officers found Holland with 10 Northern Abalone. The abalone were seized and later returned alive to suitable habitat.

Northern Abalone is listed as an endangered species in Canada under the Species at Risk Act, Fisheries and Oceans Canada said.
