$790,000 Francophone immigration project planned for B.C.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada says $790,000 over three years has been allocated to Horizon Colombie-Britannique, a project led by the Société de développement économique de la Colombie-Britannique to address labour needs in economic sectors throughout British Columbia.

According to an Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada backgrounder, the project will examine Francophone talent pools and undertake matching activities involving employers and candidates. It aims to help 180 French-speaking candidates align their skills with the needs of local employers.

The department says the Centre for Innovation in Francophone Immigration supports projects designed to reduce barriers to immigration and strengthen Francophone minority communities.

The backgrounder also says key stakeholders, including the Government of British Columbia, will create a working committee focused on increasing Francophone immigration.
