In remarks dated Nov. 5, 2026, the Minister of Finance and National Revenue said the government was tabling its 2026 budget documents and notices of ways and means motions in the House of Commons. The remarks were issued through the Department of Finance Canada.

According to the minister, Budget 2026 is intended to bring day-to-day operating spending into balance with revenues by 2027-28, while keeping the deficit-to-GDP ratio on a downward track.

The minister said the budget contains more than $22 billion over five years in new measures intended to reduce Canadians’ day-to-day financial pressures. The proposed 2027 Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit Supplement would provide a 50% benefit increase to more than 12 million Canadians and add $4.1 billion in support in 2027, according to the minister.

The budget would also renew the Reaching Home program and the Veteran Homelessness Program, the minister said. The Minister of Finance and National Revenue said: “With Budget 2026, we are putting Canada on a path to end homelessness within 10 years.”
