B.C. premier marks Firefighters’ National Memorial Day

B.C. Premier David Eby issued a statement on Sept. 13, 2026, marking Firefighters’ National Memorial Day.

Eby honoured firefighters who lost their lives while protecting their communities and thanked those who fought and continue to fight wildfires in British Columbia and beyond.

David Eby, premier of British Columbia, said: “Today, on Firefighters’ National Memorial Day, we honour the firefighters who lost their lives while protecting their communities and keeping people safe and give sincere thanks to those who fought and continue to fight wildfires in B.C. and beyond.”

The statement said the province had expanded presumptive cancer coverage to include additional occupational cancers and invested in volunteer and composite fire departments for equipment and training.
