Eby marks Labour Day with statement honouring B.C. workers

Premier David Eby issued a statement marking Labour Day on Sept. 7, 2026, and said the day honours and celebrates working people in British Columbia.

“Happy Labour Day to everyone!” Eby said.

Eby said working people include those who care for, protect and teach families, as well as those who help build communities.

The premier said the province is building critical infrastructure with the federal government and First Nations, with workers and unionized labour expected to be involved in the projects.

He also said British Columbia has invested $241 million in skilled-trades training. According to Eby, the investment includes increased per-seat funding for apprentice programs and measures intended to address wait lists for critical industrial trades.

Eby said British Columbia signed a prosperity agreement with the federal government two months earlier that recognized child care as essential to economic growth.

Labour Minister Jennifer Whiteside said Labour Day recognizes the contributions of British Columbians and migrant workers, as well as efforts to secure workplace rights and safer working conditions.

“Labour Day is an opportunity to recognize the many hard-working British Columbians and migrant workers who help build, strengthen and move our province forward every day,” Whiteside said.
