History bus tour explores Essex, Herscher

A guided half-day bus tour through Essex and Herscher showcasing local museums, historic homes, public art and landmarks—with lunch included for $25—is set to roll out Saturday, July 18.

Discover the stories behind Kankakee County on a guided half-day bus tour through Essex and Herscher on Saturday, July 18, visiting museums, historic homes, public art and local landmarks. History lovers and curious explorers are invited to board the Reflections of Kankakee County: History Bus Tour from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18. The half-day tour departs from Kankakee County Museum and takes participants through Herscher and Essex, stopping at museums, historic sites, murals and barn quilts.

The itinerary includes the Essex Historical Society Museum, the Herscher Historical Society, lunch at Herscher Pub on Main Street, and the Anderson House, the former home of Herscher’s first mayor. Participants return to Kankakee County Museum around 2 p.m., where they can browse exhibits including the George Grey Barnard Exhibit, The Civil War: Soldier’s Exhibit, and America 250. “This tour is about more than just visiting buildings,” Executive Director Angelina Gear said in a news release.

“It’s about connecting with the stories, people, and creative spirit that make our communities unique.” Tickets are $25 per person and include transportation, guided tours and lunch. Space is limited.
