Federal funding supports new accessible transit hub in Pemberton

The federal government is providing more than $10.6 million for rural and remote transit projects across British Columbia, including a project in the Village of Pemberton.

In Pemberton, the funding will support an accessible multi-modal transit hub connected with BC Transit service. The project includes a transit station, bus shelters, a sidewalk, a crosswalk, lighting, bike racks, earthworks, roadworks and landscaping.

The hub is intended to serve surrounding communities, including Líl̓wat Nation, Southern Stl’atl’imx communities, Whistler and Squamish.

The broader investment will also fund vehicle purchases and transit planning projects for 12 additional communities in the province.

The federal contribution totals $10,627,292, while recipients are contributing $753,449. Funding is conditional on signing a contribution agreement and, where applicable, meeting requirements for consultation with Indigenous groups and environmental assessment obligations.
