Sudbury Horticultural Society’s annual garden tour happens this weekend

This year’s self-guided tour will feature six unique, beautifully landscaped local gardens, offering inspiration and a first-hand look at what is possible in Northern Ontario's climate

Sudbury winters are long and the growing season brief, but local gardening enthusiasts aren't letting that stop them from showcasing their hard work. The Sudbury Horticultural Society (SHS) has announced the return of its highly anticipated annual Open Garden Weekend, Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. According to a press release issued by the society, this year’s self-guided tour will feature six unique, beautifully landscaped local gardens, offering inspiration and a firsthand look at what is possible in Northern Ontario's climate.

Diane Jeffery, vice-president of the SHS and lead organizer for the 2026 tour, expressed her excitement for the diverse lineup of gardens. "I am always fascinated by how each gardener incorporates their personality into their outdoor space," Jeffery stated in the press release. "Each space has its own challenges and advantages that have been turned into an outdoor oasis in our city."

The press release notes that garden hosts will be on-site and eager to answer questions about their personal passion projects. To ensure a respectful and pleasant experience for everyone, organizers ask that visitors request permission before taking any photographs and remind attendees that no pets are allowed on the garden properties. Attendees must purchase an official SHS Open Garden Passport for $10.

The passport includes the addresses of the featured properties and a map to help plan your route. Passports can be purchased online via the official website at sudburyhorticulturalsociety.ca or in person at the following local retailers: - Azilda Greenhouses - Backyard Birder - Barrydowne Paint - Jetty’s Landscape Supplies - Lougheed Flowers - Southview Greenhouse Growers The tour will go ahead rain or shine, and Jeffery advises attendees to "dress appropriately for the weather."
